STUDENTS OF SPEY - SPEY CLASS WITH JOHN HAZEL

John's first spey casting lesson of 2012 was a bit tough. The Deschutes River was flowing at 10,000 cfs at Moody gauge. These poor fellas had to find safe water for casting which meant that they were among the Alders. Little did they know that this is where the two-hander really shines.  Joe, Joel, and Andy were John's little lumps of clay to mold in his own image. As a non-participant, it was very interesting to watch the dynamics of the group change as John eased them into the driver seat. One characteristic of John Hazel is that he has an uncanny ability to communicate with every walk of life. With eyes wide open, similar to "deer in the headlights" look, the students absorbed the 35 years of knowledge like a Shamwow. Amy didn't know what a Shamwow was....Middlebury! I digress. The students performed above average, grew great beards, learned the value of the single spey, which is the only cast a fella needs, and were humbled by the greatness of JHC.  But overall and most importantly these group of fellow Spey Casting practitioners had a great time.
